Walther PP

I was gifted this Walther for Christmas. Long story but my nephew’s father in law had it in a safe of his father’s for a long time. I found it when we emptied it to move it I asked if he was interested in selling it and he said he would think about it. He ended up giving it to my nephew to give me for Christmas. Serendipity. It’s a 1944 Nazi Police model.

Nice later ‘44 gun. These are not an easy find. These are just before the later ‘45 PP ac pistols with no logo on the slide. I found three of them in the 360XXXp serial number range. Two of them are e/F police, 8 numbers away from each other.

Close to mine. Do yours have the wooden grips?

Any idea how many were made? I see less than 5000 but I haven’t seen a number I would trust. Late war, wood handle, pre-AC SN, eagle F on the left side.
No, I sure don't know. I know they are a little tougher to find. Somehow I accidently came across three within a few weeks apart from different sources.

I am curious about something. I’m assuming it’s a mistake but the P at the end of the SN on the slide has another letter, perhaps a q. Any thoughts about that?

It could be an upside down and backwards lower case b. Or it could be the elusive and much sought after “pq” mark. I’m guessing a someone accidentally hammered that in, realized they screwed up and just put a p over it. Any other thoughts?
