The 39th Turret Mount ever made

Thought it might interest some here what I've had now for quite some time in my collection - so here we go..

For those who know the history of the turret mount - of course it can't be on a K98k rifle: it was invented for the Argentine M1909 rifle. While most who know these scopes think of the ones supplied via Nedinsco in the Netherlands, not all know that the first 50 (estimated) ever made were only hand engraved scopes with no manufacturer markings at all.

What is very interesting on this particular scope which came from the estate of an Argentine Army gunsmith are the bases it came with - no screws, it was only silver soldered. So in fact the turret mount had made some evolution itself.

Sorry for the bad quality since I only made some quick pictures with my mobile, but I think they show the most important details. And looking forward to all comments!

Never knew nor have I ever heard about this Model Bases before . Georg is there in mention of these in any of the Argentine Mauser Books Published or have You had personal contact with said gunsmith were they came from ? Very Interesting and Rare Item . Thank You for sharing . Best Regards.

Antonio also has one of those very first scopes with the hand engraving. But I think not of the very early bases. As said, this came from an estate exactly this way (and I had known about it before), I did not change anything about it.
And no, this is not something you'll find in books. While Colin Websters book is quite good researched, he does contain some errors on the Argentine snipers, both on the M1891 and the M1909.

Argentina

I bought one of the 1909 Argentine rifles through Shotgun News quite a few years ago. Mine has no finish on the receiver, is #9977 on the stock, C9977 on the receiver. I was told it was one of the first 500 after WWI, made in Germany on the sneak. My scope is #80288, front and rear mounts have screws. Lovely rifle..........Sepp44
