Hi all, i have been enjoying all the imperial rifles posted lately, and finally had some time to post one of mine. I found this one in the junk rack at an ar15 shop about a decade ago. I posted it at that time on GB. Since the pix are gone i figured id put it up here where it would be appreciated.

Bolt/Rod mismatch. I believe SS on GB said this was built on a reject action. All comments and information appreciated. I can disassemble for barrel code pix etc if anyone wants them

TIA! Gene

Cool rifle! Thanks for sharing.

Barrel code, stick acceptance (right side, wrist and keel) would be great!

This is such a great sterngewehr! I’ve never seen one made on an early Amberg receiver. Thanks for the great photos!

Spandau made sterngewehr, they used a lot of pre-war receivers but also their own make (in-house, not Pieper's or S&H) plus quite a few WOK's...

I have your 2009 pictures from Gunboards, these are much better!

Pre-war Amberg receivers are rarely seen, but a few wartime (1916's) are seen, mostly Erfurt used. Interestingly Amberg was known to have rebuilt Prussian rifles, DWM and Spandau's mostly. Not formally sterngewehrs, but thorough re-barrels and re-stocks, hardly different though they did retain the receivers serial/suffix and left the RR unmolested. Basically salvages, but quite often that is what Prussian/Saxony sterngewehrs are (essentially)

Really many of these variations have similarities to other forms of reworks, often the distinctions between these odd reworks, salvages and builds are pretty hazy, often some of these "reworks" differ little from a formal "sterngewehr" except for the star. The Amberg re-barreling and restocking Prussian rifles, the 1915 salvaging of early receivers by Danzig and the Suhl start ups, many of these are very similar.

Thanks for the great info Paul!
