SS contract single rune sn. 3916

Hey folks,

So with all the SS contract discussion going on I thought I’d open up this one for discussion too. Its a very Radom heavy SS contract rifle single rune. But actually, its really a double rune, since its got an additional rune just above the wood line on the right side of the receiver.

Now, full disclosure, I just bought this rifle on GB. The price stayed somewhat reasonable and so I through out a ‘screw it’ bid at the last second… and won. I did discuss this rifle with some other longtime members before bidding, and I (and others) believe the extra rune is likely just a factory error.

I liked it and based off what other examples have sold for and how crazy the k98k market is right now Id say you did very well.. We all have to be prepared now for GB's added fees and that's always fun to absorb. I think the fact the other was humped up and fake and the utter distain for this seller for a lot of folks here kept some folks away ?? But as we have seen the insane bidders on GB certainly aren't members here ! LOL

Nice rifle Hale, cool conversation piece with the added rune. Be sure to wipe it down with some baby wipes when it arrives. The last rifle those gloves handled was covered with !

I think you’ve gotten lucky and possibly scored a good one. A number of people were probably confused by the second rune (I initially was), and perhaps a little dissuaded by the shady reputation of the seller, but how’s that expression go? Even a blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut.

I can’t speak specifically to seeing a “double rune” on a K98k, but I own an M40 Kriegsmarine helmet that’s marked ET64 on the side and back of the skirt, which strictly speaking was not the norm… so these things did happen. Human errors have always been a thing.

But, your SS contact has no Gusen connections for the major components or assembly, typical of bnz43 rune guns.

I need to do a quiz on assembly by forced labor. This is assembled by forced laborers

Well, it’s an anomalous rifle, with two runes stamped on the receiver. If that’s not a “double rune”, then I don’t know what to call it.

What are you gonna do? Put me on double secret probation for inventing terms?!

I’m kidding around about the double rainbow. It’s a good gun and I’m glad the seller didn’t get his usual bidders, it sold for a good price.

These are my favorite. My rune looks just like yours. One of the ends is faint, and thick in the same exact place. I wonder if this happened during the stamp process or wear in the tool. Maybe Mr Farb can identify the reason.

Your guess is as good as any, just how the stamp was forged or how it was applied. I’ve never seen the original die stamp.

I could be wrong, but I notice on the right side of the receiver a brighter purple patina color, pic #91 in pictures. What causes that, or was that part of their selection process. I notice that in more Steyr than others.

Wrong temperature in the bluing process..

Wow. That’s so interesting. I’m assuming that cosmetic blem was enough to disqualify it for army use, but good enough for SS contract.
