(I realize the photos did not upload well, I am trying to fix this)

Hello, I have had this soldbuch for years but I do not know anything about it and cannot seem to get it translated. Could anyone here help me? I’d like to know the general run down of him and his service, general details about him, where he served, who he served with and if the information in the Soldbuch corresponds to any action he may have taken part in etc. If someone could make a write up for me or something I would be so appreciative. I became so frustrated in not being able to translate much, and not knowing how to properly research soldbuchs made me more confused that I put this soldbuch away until I found this page. I will put photos down below. Thanks! (

Hard to read that thick Sutterlin script in his last unit, but unusually start with what’s readable and follow his training unit - pay attention to the dates he was in and compare to the translated version below (unless you can read German):

The battalion was founded on the 26th. August 1939 in Hamm, Wehrkreis VI. The infantry replacement battalion 193 was subordinate to Division 166 and provided the replacement for the 69. Infantry Division. On the 5th In November 1939, the battalion was moved to Marienburg in West Prussia, Wehrkreis XX. On the 18th In August 1940, the battalion was moved back to Detmold to Wehrkreis VI. On the 1st In October 1942, the battalion in Detmold was divided into an infantry replacement battalion 193 and an infantry training battalion 193, both battalions remained subordinate to Division 166. Both battalions were on the 7th. November 1942 in Grenadier Substitute Battalion 193 or Grenadier Training Battalion 193 renamed. On the 23rd In January 1943, the training battalion was moved to Aalborg in Denmark. From the 1st In February 1943, the replacement battalion was under Division 176. From the 26th In October 1943, the training battalion was called the Reserve Grenadier Battalion 193 and the 166. Reserve division subordinated. On the 17th In December 1943, the relocation of the reserve battalion to strengthen the coastal defense to the division section of the 166. Reserve division ordered. On the 5th In April 1944, the 166th Reserve Division 3,000 T-mines allocated for the proposed mining in the section of the Reserve Battalion. On the 29th April 1944 is issued by the 166. Reserve division the proposal, the 1. Company of the reserve battalion to be replenished in a structured manner to 4 strong moves. This was intended to take into account a demand to strengthen the infantry crew of Tyborön. The application was approved on the same day by the Wehrmacht Commander Denmark. On the 14th In July 1944, the substitute battalion was expanded to the Grenadier replacement and training battalion 193. In September 1944, the replacement battalion was made mobile as a Valkyrie unit. The replacement battalion will then be in October in the 176. Infantry Division. The replacement battalion was then rebuilt. The reserve battalion was located in Tyberön on the Limijord in Denmark in December 1944. The Reserve Battalion formed the II Battalion of the Grenadier Regiment 661 in February 1945.

I’ll update this post as I decode things:

Security check in Dec 1943 shows he was assigned to Gren Rgt 712, part of Inf Div 416:

In Feb 44 he was at the unit hospital for some reason but was considered “fit for duty”

Important part for your guy:

On the 4th October 1944, the transfer of the division to the Western Front was ordered, with Grenadier Regiment 714 remaining in North Jütland. The average age of the soldiers of the division at the beginning of October 1944 was 38 years. The division was partially immobile at that time and had no combat experience. The division was actually to be moved to the Belfort area, was determined by Army Group G to unload and deploy the division in the Saarburg - Mettlach - Merzig area. The division was subordinated to the LXXXII Army Corps. The division solved the 48th in its section. Infantry Division and moved in on the 11th. October 1944 a command post in Keuchingen near Mettlach / Saar. After the start of the Allied offensive over the Moselle on the 9th. In November 1944, parts of the division were used in the beginning defensive battles around Freching and Kerling. On the 15th In November 1944, parts of the Grenadier Regiment 712 fought in the line Ritzing - Obernaumen - Kirschnaumen.

Trying to decipher “Kriegs Transport Abt 790” as the hospital entry In Feb 45 when he was shot - code 31a is bullet wounds- shows them. Perhaps this was a unit who transported wounded from field hospitals.

Black Wound badge awarded March 1945.
