Used 7 coats of blo to refinish the walnut stock, but obviously when gun oil or something gets on it I can see that it’s just going to get absorbed if I don’t wipe it off, I see a lot of older guns and k98s have this like layer on the wood or something am I suppose to put something to seal it or no

I still can’t understand with all the information we have known for years. BLO was not used in WW2 by the Germans. Commercial modern Boiled linseed oil has tons of additives and drying accelerants. These are usually metallic in nature, like cobalt and/or manganese. Many times some catalysts are used to further speed up drying time. All this results in a final finish that does line up with WW2 desired finish that many try to achieve. We know from documentation that “Linseed oil” was used. Regular raw linseed oil and modern boiled linseed oil give off two completely different final finishes.
