Schmeisser Haenel Luger Mag mystery

Got this Schmeisser magazine with a 1937 S/42 Luger, magazine was jammed inside the gun by the previous owner and had to be pressed out with a wooden Dowell, clearly does not fit in this gun, nor did it fit in my 1916 DWM, the markings on the base plate are a mystery to me beside the serial and magazine number, maybe someone can shine some light on this mystery magazine, my hunch is its a 30 luger mag.

It's a Haenel made commercial magazine from a Police Luger. The 799 is probably the inventory number of the pistol, and the Crown/H is often found on these Haenel mags. I don't think the exact purpose of the Crown/H is known, but its probably some kind of acceptance, police or factory.

The Luger mag is a universal fit and should fit either 7.65 or 9mm versions.

Thank you very much!

I had my suspicions that was probably going to be the case, as to why it's so tight i dont know, it seems to be in very good condition, granted the s/42 is tighter than my dwm which flings mags with ease.

I agree. The mag should fit very nicely and if it doesn’t fit especially when tried with a few different guns it tells me that it has been tampered with at some point. The tolerances are very unforgiving with Luger magazines. These type Haenel Schmeisser mags are widely regarded as among the very finest Luger mags made.

Think its worth finding a luger wizard to take a look at it or keep it as a shelf peice/holster filler?

the bigger question is fit ? does it slide all the way in and lock and then not pull out ? Its not uncommon for luger mags to get bulged or dented causing them not to fit. These are made of extruded alum. So if you used Prussian blue dye and let it dry and inserted it a few times you would see where its rubbing then maybe you could dress down that spot ?

Itll slide all the way with some force, it gets tight maybe less than a inch from the base plate, Prussian blue isn't a bad idea

I have one very similar. Same markings on the body of the magazine.
