Private purchase S84/98nA style bayonet by Möve-Werke Walter & Co which is one of the few known examples of 84/98 sawback by this manufacturer. The grip carries the cypher of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. This cypher was also worn by Mecklenburgisches Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 17. A similar example with Prussian Wilhelm II cypher is shown on pg. 66 of the German S84/98 Bayonet Vol 1: 1908-1933 by Bruce Karem.

Wow! Great bayonet! Very cool to see another of this rare example! Here is the one that is in Bruce's book on page 66. It resides in my collection...I took a couple of quick photos of it. I thought it would be cool to see them side by side! Thanks for posting your bayonet!

Beautiful piece! I really love the engraving on the pommel as well.

I've got a few more private purchase MW S84/98 to post, will start with this one with the less often seen black finish and lack of flash guard.

I really like this last one with the black finish! I'm guessing you could buy these as you desired? A fantastic piece IMHO. Congrats

I assume similar pcs were used by Officers for wearing in duty to replacing long IOD post 1916. Blackening would be normal as not shine of metall near front areas.

Black finished edged weapons were quite popular with officers especially on "extra" or "walking out" pieces. Not only during the First World War but also in the Weimar period and between the wars.

What a gorgeous piece! Thanks for sharing .......

Thanks Slash. The OPs piece is really very nice but something about that black really stands out. My Grandfather's 'walking out' piece was the more typical polished metal with black painted scabbard from Robert Klaas.

I have a short one from this era. Acquired with it's original frog. It is my favorite of all the KS98 pieces I own. I just missed a blacked Ks98 with stag grips. The grips were lighter in color. It was a stunning example. Hope to find another as nice.
