Depends on what for early ACS is this bayonet, could be letter S or damaged other letter which is wrongly stamped.

Most real even F but this should be found here in forum on real pieces, there could be too a letter B exist.

The deepest part of the stamp looks like a "D" forward of the burst. However, never seen a burst-D. I have a burst-S and don't think it is that. Also have a ACS burst-F, but OP's blade marking doesn't look like a "F" either. What I do note is all my marked Police bayonets, whether with starburst or Police eagle, bear the associated alpha letter to the right side (3:00 position). The exception is the burst-S, where it is at the 6:00 position below the burst.

I think the letter "s" for comparison, in the right photo S on my ACS

An S in my opinion. The only S84/98 spine marking Police star stamps on the S84/98 that I have recorded are F, K and S. From my databases, F is the most common marking of this type followed by S and K as the most seldom encountered. My thoughts only ....

By police bayonets which are unserialed is probably harder to obtain full list of proofs as there could be even small bunch of bayonets proofed with various inspector, there are service long police SG ACS proofed with Star B.

I'm glad I saw this thread . I've had this bayonet over 40 years but was never able to figure this star proof out. What do you think?

It could be letter S but is not visible the star is too not completely stamped only the upper part. Looks like high polish 37/8 period.
