P35, Late war blued K block

Here’s a recent pick up. Most late K blocks are phosphate. Wish this one had been stored better. I gently cleaned off some surface rust. There’s some unfortunate freckling on the slide and grip, but couldn’t pass up a blued K block for the price.

Fit and build quality leave much to be desired (or not, depending on how you like late war stuff :) )

Not seen this late/blued 2nd series k-bloc pattern P35 before. Of the two or three "j-bloc" pistols I ever saw, they were phosphate finished. Perhaps there was some interruption in the phosphate finishing process where they returned to bluing for a time. I do recall a highly unusual P35 Ed Macauley once owned. It was a matched Polish pre-ww2 pistol of 1939 vintage. However, there were numerous machine markings in some areas...particularly on the rear grip strap, on which the components had been attached and then finish-machined over to smooth it out. Finish was a lite bluing on the slide and receiver. However, most of the smaller parts were typical late, Steyr production in phosphate (trigger, slide release, etc.) and slotted wooden grips. My guess is the pistol was shelved for some reason after the Germans took over and ultimately got sent to Steyr when the Radom factory was cleaned out and relocated there, where it got assembled near the end of production.
