P.08 Erfurt 1916 rig, 2 matching mags

In the process of picking this up. Out of the woodwork, been in a trunk from the vet, with the same family since it was brought back. Unmessed with, 100% matched, two matching mags, tool, 1916 holster named to Johann Muller, with a unit which may be a MG kompanie. A Johann Muller is listed as KIA in October 1918 on the Western Front and buried in a war grave. Had air rust and the bore had dust bunnies and residue, but cleaned to a mirror.

"Johann Muller", but is it THE Johann Muller who had this pistol? There is only one "Johann Muller" listed in all of the German war graves registry for WW1 and WW2:

Very odd only one Johann Muller appears - that name is in the "John Smith" category in Germany I would think...

Awesome score. What site are you using to search for German KIA? I have a Luger rig as well that is named and haven't been able to find anything.

Wow, that is a nice find. I'm partial to Erfurts with all those Imperial proofs. Even the straw parts look good! Nice holster and two correct matching mags, you don't see that often in WW1 Lugers.

MGK is the German WW1 period abriviation that stands for Machine Gewehr Kompanie; the MG company was an independent unit in a standard infantry battalion.
The "I" belongs to his name and not to his unit abriviation.
When an administration in Germany is confronted with two people with the same name, like in this case Müller, they add a roman numeral behind the name; the smallest number is for the oldest person.
So in a company with three Müllers they are written down on the role and known as Müller I, Müller II and Müller III.
Johann Müller must be the most common name in Germany, the equivallent of John Smith in England; researching such a common name is impossible if you don't have other clues.
Hambone, I think you typed in "Muller" instead of "Müller" on the wargraves website, that Umlaut is important in German spelling, just try his exact name "Müller" and see how many names pop up.
As an example I added a picture of a Soldbuch of an Otto Kuhn I.

Thanks Peter Yes, when I researched "Müller" instead of "Muller", and particularly "Johann Müller", there were at least 321 war graves for "Johann Müller" (and derivatives) between WW1 and WW2. Very helpful on the I, II, and III, and something I never knew!

You got first shot. It really is a completely original rig, been together and literally out of a vet's footlocker, from the family, a buddy of mine, retired cop from a rural area. Stayed together, unmessed with. I think I wsa the first person to take it down and wipe it down. I did not "clean" it, other than the bore which was full of dust bunnies. It's not "MINT!", but it's original.
