Hey all, heres one i found today in my travels, appears all matching but rough. After diggin around here i believe its a no suffix Dresden Sterngewehr. No rod present. Story from shop was it was found in a barrel in a barn along with a bunch of other rifles, mostly poor comdition sporting rifles, a carcano and an arisaka(ground)

even in its poor condition im happy to have it, as every GEW98 i have found has had at least a mismatched bolt. anyways heres the pix, itll take awhile to get it cleaned up a bit. i apologize for my poor photography skills, im a lousy photographer, and using an iphone in the Marriott doesnt help…all comments welcome. Bolt body appears unmarked other than serial if that means anything

NICE!! I have a 1899 Spandau that was reworked by the germans in the 1930's. I've yet to snag and all WW1 era correct Gewehr 98 but I will someday! Hopefully ya got this for a great price!

Nice! This was a awesome score in my book. I hope one of the shops here in the sooner state would do the same for me especially my FFL dealer 😂 cause i've helped him quite abit with estate rifles. Your rifle looks right as rain and is all matching serial numbers so nothing has been swapped out which is just icing on the cake!

thx! much appreciated…i didnt grab pix of the bayo lug or rear sight slider but they match. internal parts will have to wait till i get home

No problem, these sterngewehr rifles are really neat pieces of history. Probably the highlight aside from a wurrtemberg Gewehr 98 for line infantry rifles.

Looks solid to me Gene! Stock looks to be a Simson produced one (that funky E is the indicator)

Frankly condition isn’t that bad. It’s dirty and has some spots of surface rust but I’m willing to bet it will clean up very nicely, especially the stock.

Yea, couple bad pits, floorplate and gas shield. otherwise itll look ok when cleaned up. forgot i had a nice screwdriver set in the company car for a situation like this, so i popped the wood off. not much under the woodline, but heres pix

Congrats on finding a matching one! Even in its condition, I think it's still a wonderful find!
