New member hoping to get some info on Gew 98

Hello, I’m new to this site and I have an old 8mm Mauser I received from my grandfather a few years. I don’t know much about it but I’m not able to find images of others like it to identify it. Especially with the style of the stock and wondering if it was replaced afterwards. Any help is great!IMG_0796.jpegIMG_0795.jpegIMG_0794.jpegIMG_0793.jpegIMG_0792.jpegIMG_0791.jpegIMG_0790.jpegIMG_0789.jpegIMG_0788.jpegIMG_0786.jpegIMG_0785.jpeg

Looks like a sporterized Gew 98M (basically a WW1 Gew 98 that was reworked post WW1 for improved ammo.)

This is the range where maple stocks show up, two probable but a few mismatcher cloud how common this is... if the stock (BP at least) matches it may extend how common this was, - this rifles range is outside the other two, but we are talking a range of 5 rifles.

I did not show a pic of the buttplate but it looks to be the original metal plate with the matching serial number stamped on it

Maybe some markings survive, faint or not, but see if a large A or B exist on the buttstock side. I am not educated or familiar enough with grain patterns to differentiate wood types by pictures alone, but maple is possible in this range (beech is more common, walnut is less common, though possible at any time wth this maker...)

In simple comparison to other maples (A marked) it is favorable to an unfamiliar eye...
