Hi all: Hope you can help me with your "take on my new acquisition. This is reported to be an arsenal refurbished "bring back" I am getting photos ready. In the meantime I'll describe the rifle.
It looks brand new! The wood is free of dings, dents, scratches. The serial no 8106 is clearly marked on the side of the stock in numbers that are close to 1/4 inch. There is also a deaths head to the rear of the trigger guard. The bluing is perfect EXCEPT that the bold is NOT blued but a brighr shiny surface. Matching nos are all over the rifle. The butt plate is stamprd gqm +3 as well as no. 8106. The receiver is marked bnz 43.On the receiver between these two marks are two fine * slightly larger than the 43. Forward of the bnz there are the letters 47DEW followed by a Waffenamp.
On the side of the barrel there is stamped GER 8mm H.R. ca5418.Is this an import stamp? The bore is bright and shiny with strong lands and grooves.
I was not aware of all of the marking prior to the guns arrival this AM.
Am I getting "shafted" by paying $2100 for this rifle??

You are getting shafted. What you describe is a Mitchell's Mauser. Worth about $450 if you are lucky. Sorry for the bad news.

Thank you!! Iwas afraid of that. However, I didn't think that Mitchel's Mausers had all matching numbers??

they aren't till they get done with them... the chrome in the white bolt and ser # on the side of the stock is a dead give a way..

The large star marking * you refer to is a trademark of their rifles, they put an extra dash through the Russian Capture X marking to make that mark, then they say it's some reject mark or SS mark. The gun is not collectible, NOT a bring back of any sort, and not reworked by any legitimate WW2 source as they claim.

Oh man, that's terrible. $2100? I remember when I first saw a Micthell's Mauser ad...the first thing that came to my mind was IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. I hope he can get his money back because with that amount of money I believe he can easily buy a all matching authentic rifle.

I hope you didn't either that is alot of money to lose for one of those Mitchells Mausers polished turd rifles. And for $2100 would get you a really nice all matching K98k rifle. Best advise I can give you is have patience and study on these rifles. Buy the books before you buy the guns. And another word of advise some of the best K98k deals I have ever came across were at estate auctions in a small town out in the country. Trust me there are good deals still out there. If your looking for a nice K98k piece they turn up for sale here from time to time.

Thank you fpr the feedback!!!! More problems--The seller says that if I send the gun back he will refuse to accept the shipment. His ad on Gunsinternational states a 3 day return policy. He says that he would refund me $1200 so I would be paying $900. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions

Hey Guys--I need some help here. The seller of the what turned out to be a Mitchel's Mauser stated in his Gunsinternational ad that he has a 3 day return policy. Now however, he's telling me that he will refuse to accept the returned gun and will not return the $2100 purchase price. He wants to send me back $1200 which leaves me paying $900 for the Mitchels.I'm not liking this situation but do not know what to do. What do you think? The seller, in his last E mail indicated that he would entertain another offer from me.I guess upping the $1200 return amount??

Has it been more than three days?
If so you may have to accept what ever refund you can get..
If not, you may have recourse, so talk to Gunsinternational about it.

Return Policy Guidelines of GunsInternational.com Unless the buyer and seller agree to modify, as may be the case in a new gun and for used guns it must be clearly marked in the listing as No Return, the return policy is three (3) calendar days from the day the item(s) are received by the buyer or delivered to the FFL acting for the buyer. The item may be returned for any reason, but the buyer must notify the seller within the three (3) calendar day inspection period. The buyer must start the return within the next four (4) calendar days to receive a complete refund, less all shipping and FFL charges. In other words shipping must start within one week of receipt of the item(s). The return shipping must be of equal shipping level, including insurance i.e.. Priority, Express, Blue Label etc. The return item MUST be in the same condition as when shipped to the buyer. This is an inspection period only, a gun is not to be fired or disassembled. Sellers written permission is required to allow the buyer to take down a takedown model during the inspection period. Upon the receipt and inspection of the returned gun, the seller agrees to issue a prompt refund. Recommendation: Confirm purchase with all details via the Contact Seller form within the listing and print out the listing for your records. Any modification of the 3 day return policy must be in writing by both buyer and seller.

Looks pretty clear cut to me, if the above applies then you get a full refund...

The time has come for you to link or publish the exact item description, terms of use/sale and the seller's name/handle.

You also have to ask yourself why you were readily willing to spend $2,100 on a rifle you haven't even held in your hand for inspection and vetting. I smell buyer's remorse...

That's the good thing about their return policy as I posted above, as long as buyer is within the time frame, he only loses the the shipping and return fees..
Not to defend buying a MM at any price but new guys do new guy stuff.
At least he wanted a k98 and not a black gun, and I hope his interest in WWII rifles is not snuffed out by this problem.

If you cannot return it as mentioned above by other members than I would negotiate a return of the price with him. If he is already offering $1,200 than I would maybe try to get $1,500. Then I would list this rifle for sale on gunbroker. Clearly state that it is a Mitchel's Mauser! Take good pictures and start it as a penny auction with no reserve. You will get a decent price for it and probably have most of you money back.

Don't be discouraged. Everyone here who has collected for more than a week has a story to tell like yours. If you wish to continue to collect than buy Bruce and Mike's book and study hard before your next purchase. Keep at it. It is a very funny hobby. Good luck.
