New BNZ 45 t block

A recent addition, early 3 digit BNZ T block with final proofs. Mostly phosphate with a few blued parts, rig included a nice late 2 stitch sling and rubber muzzle cover. The hood on it was a crappy repop that I replaced with one I had in my parts box, hopefully I will get lucky and find a nice Steyr hood to add to it down the road. Pretty typical Steyr "quality", if that's the right word to use, especially on the bolt components, rough forged, right there. The cocking piece has the "1" as an overstrike over a "6".

I did have a question on the barrel, on the shank there is a "2", was this an armorer spare barrel being used in production?

When I was looking at the pic sticky for reference on this one there weren't any really early T blocks in the list so thought I would get pics up of this one.

thanks, Nick

Great rifle! Added to the sticky as it’s true, there’s no early ones.

The number on the barrel shoulder doesn't relate to a re-barrel or ordnance spare, the numbers start in number in early 1944 and run 1-8, though 1,2,5,8 are by far most common, not sure i have recorded 3,4,6,7 in any number, but lower case "a" is commonly encountered. Not sure that relevance can be interpreted with any certainty, but these seem to start early 1944, some numbers are highly represented, some almost negligible if even exist, most often at the top of the shoulder, but sometimes off-centered and cockeyed and the number is SDP applied, - sub-contracted barrels in 1944 to SDP (assembly) carry this number (and 3 is often seen in such cases, rare if ever in SDP barrels, but Ruhrstahl-FN commonly)

Thanks guys, I was very happy to add this one to the collection, a 1945 coded gun has for some reason proved very elusive for me.

And thanks Loewe for the information on the barrel marking, I guess I'm so accustomed to seeing the 7,9 on the barrel shoulder I missed that it is there on many late BNZ's, it's always the details in this hobby that keep it interesting.

A great example of a late-war Kar 98k. I especially love the stock. I do have an extra bnz sight hood,
but I can't find it in all my parts "stashes". If I do find it I will contact you, it would look great on your rifle.

Very nice addition and thanks for sharing. These all seem to be unique to some extent and the variety just never ends.

Thanks so much Bob! Really appreciate it, would love to add a correct Steyr hood to this one...

Nice to see better photos of this one ! Early T block , nice hammer bounce on the stock proof.. Faint bolt numbering overall a super example and the price was fair...

Late Steyr never disappoints for the odd one off stuff.. They are all just a little different..

Did you end up getting a Steyr hood? If not I have one. I got it for a restoration project but it would look a lot better on such a good matching rifle.
