Need Help Identifying a German Sidearm

This sidearm is from the family of a WWII veteran. Claims he brought it back.

This appears to be a 1914 design Mauser. The only markings are the S/N, the Mauser information on the slide, and a crown "U" inspection stamp. It has the last three digits of the S/N on the firing pin housing. It is missing the firing pin.

No expert on these, but this appears to be a real odd ball pistol compared to all of the information and images available of this design. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Typical Mauser Model 1910/1914 pistol. Serial number dates it around 1919-1920. Based on the info attached.

Very good information. Thank you very much. I agree that it must be in the 1919-1920 range.

However, there is no caliber stamping of “Mauser 7.65"on the right side of the pistol.
