Hello. Recently i bought Mauser K98k.Itbis Oberndorf S/42 late1937,SN 7418v,laminate stock,small delaminationon the wrist,nice bluing,all matching except firing pin, wich is not blued,little rusty and with not common markings-something like Y and heart or leaf and number 36,magazin flower was also replaced and floor plate renumbered,bolt sleeve has not waA 63,but hardly visible eagle 303? and eagle 20?i don't know. Bolt sleeve on the edge marked with letter K,don't know what does it mean. Perhaps war-time depot rework, what is your opinion?

The rifle has issues, but looks like a decent shooter. I do see what looks like a legitimate depot renumbered floor plate but the bolt numbering I do not like, I think that has been ground down and renumbered or “humped” to fool the unwary. The receiver almost looks reblued. The stock has had a varnish put on. The butt plate should also be in the white or bare metal, not blued.
Notwithstanding these issues, if the price was right it looks like a good representation and probably a good shooter if the bore is good and it headspaces appropriately

It's a pre-war rifle...
Overall, it's been reblued, shellaced, and has had its bolt humped.

Welcome to the forum. This rifle looks like it's been refinished by Bubba as the stock and bluing are a bit too glossy for a pre war K98k that would've seen multiple years of service. The buttplate has been blued and should be in the white. I agree with Herk that the bolt has been "humped", the original number has been ground off and the bolt restamped to match the receiver.
It'll make for a decent representative and a good shooter if the bore is good and the price was low. You can always compare to the picture reference thread that we have here to see what original examples look like, it's a fantastic tool. And ask questions first before buying if you're ever uncertain.

Tank you for your opinions.Even it is rework, refinish,rebluing and the bolt handle probably renumbered,suffix is missing, but still on its opposit side waffenamt63.I shold by happy that this rifle survived end of the war in this shape, it is what it is,perhaps war-time depot rework, post-war rearsenal or just previous collectors rework,still the components are from that era, who knows... First of all, i am collector of war time things, not good shooter, even this rifle has well preserved bore,shiny and strong rifling. The rifle has small crack or delamination on the wrist,i think caused by recoil, but it looks like redone,does not look deep, dust or glue remainings inside. Anyway, i love its style, feels so good in my hands and it looks well in my collection.

This ideal, it may not be a “million dollar” example, but it is YOURS & it brings you pleasure to look at & hold it. Pretty good outcome for a tool of war.
I am a collector, just shoots occasionally and for feeling the history and the dark atmosphere of 1.half of 20th century. I got 5 around S&B trough this 1937 Mauser and the crack did not spread, the crack looks like it was glued in the past perhaps by rearsenal or previous owners. anyway, i have some blank ammo,that will not damage it for sure.
