My First P.38

This is my first German milsurp that I was able to pick up a couple weeks ago. The story the guy told me is that his great uncle was in WW2 and picked it up in Germany. He gave me the name of the veteran and service records and it possibly lines up, but no paperwork for it. It was just a great deal he gave me on it. It's all matching, and a cool part is it has a frame that was made at the FN plant not Walther and also the black Mauser grips. It also came with a 2nd barrel stamped AC with a 359 waffenamt. I'm newer to the forum and collecting in general, but just wanted to share a cool piece I got. Take it easy on me!

Very nice and welcome!
Be ready to have more than one, they are habit forming.
Extra wartime barrels are few and far between. They are solid steel versus the later P1 which was sleeved. Some guys like to have them threaded ( like me). Put that on eBay and you will be halfway to your 2nd pistol!

Hard to beat that as a first one. The Belgium frames can be elusive. I have 1244H in the safe!
I got super lucky. To my shame I didn't even know it was an FN frame when I got it. It was an armslist deal from a guy a couple states away. He sent me a ton of pictures, but none with the FN waffenamt clearly visible. When I received it I was taking it apart and giving it a good cleaning when I noticed the number was different. To my delight I read about the limited run of FN frames made. It was a good deal without it being an FN frame and after that it because an awesome deal. Cool to have another gun made so close. Hard to believe the routes they take to get where they are now, but were so close 80 years ago.

This is actually something I honestly never thought of. It was really cool having a replacement barrel, but I never thought of it's value. I'll look into that as I'm wanting to save up for a K98 or Luger. Thanks for the idea!

They are very addictive and then you will want a luger than a hi power or another variety and the next thing you know you have a gun safe full
I'm already in the addiction. This was my first German gun, but I started with US militaria. I have beautiful correct '43 Garand, and a '43 M1 Carbine. I got the 1911a1 next. This was my first German gun and I'm already itching for the next. I'd love to get a luger or K98, but German milsurps are a bit daunting to get into. Hopefully in a bit I'll find the luger or 98k!
