Slingblade

Senior Member
I hope this is ok to put here?
I've been offered a mint MS420 .22 complete with sight hood, what are these worth?

They seem to be fairly rare, cool gun but I have no idea what it's worth?

Any help much appreciated.

Nice rifles eh :)

Mauser 'ms' series

I just saw two sell at auction that were flat new sell for just under 1700.00 They are a
great rifle and if you can grab it right. "grab it"!!!!

Thanks guys, I will grab it.

He wants $700, sounds like a good deal.

Nice rifle Vulch, this one is in same cond. Yours looks like s MS420b, the mag is forward of the TG, this is a MS420 with the mag by the TG and Mauser logo on the side of the butt.

you are correct. my mistake. The rifles I saw sell were like vulch's. The earlier rifles don't sell for quite as much. But if its mint 700.00 is a good price. They just are not as desirable. It has the straight bolt handle and the safety on the side of the receiver.

Thanks for the reply ac1545a.

I'll look it over again, but it doesn't look like a cheap kids gun? It looks the same as the one Vulch has posted, beside the mag and safety location.

I am none to fond of the early 350's and the first series 420's to be honest - whilst the first series 420 is kind of like a hybrid between the less than beautiful 350 and the much nice 420B. The bolt system of the early 420's is nothing spectacular and is a carry-over from the "boy's rifles", whilst of course the 420B is more or less a DSM 34 sporter with a magazine.

I too think $700 MAY be "up there" a bit for a First Series 420. It'd have to be REALLY nice IMHO.

I need to find an Oigee for my 420B...

MS420 Value

The demand for these is not at all relative to rarity. Either the MS420 or the MS420b is EXTREMELY rare. The market for these during production and the economic state of that era precluded sales or production of large numbers or repeaters.

Additionally MOST of them I have ever encountered are missing the clip or have other condition issues.

Alas, only those who have a true appreciation of all that see them at any where near their relative value.

If you are trying to put together a complete collection of Oberndorf .22 rifles they are one of the most difficult models to find in good, complete condition.

$700 is a STEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate all the help:thumbsup:

I will probably get it as it is very nice and I'm a sucker for Mausers. This may be my first "fix" that gets me hooked on trainers:facepalm:

Will post pics....

BTW...You never pay too much, you just bought early...

MS mauser...

WOW!!!!:jaw: Is all I can say. Most collectors will say buy condition first and the rest will take care of itself. Thats the nicest I've ever seen. These usually have a lot blueing wear from use and are pretty well worn when found. This one looks like it was stuck in a closet and forgoten about. It's cool to see a member inquire about an item, get advise and then see the finished product. I'd say you did the right thing!!!

Outstanding Rifle!!!!!

You did very well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would you share the serial number or first portion of it with us?

This looks like a very late one. Many of these were left in inventory after the B series production began and sold subsequent to 1934. I suspect this is one of those.

Good Collecting!!!

it is shown Jim. 111723

Thank you, and I appreciate all the help and information.

Yes the ser. # is 111723.

It helped also that I was able to fix a couple of the sellers vehicles for trade, so not too much $$ out of pocket. This also saved him several hundred dollars not taking them to the dealer, soo everyone's happy.

I may even shoot this one a few times, slim chance of breaking anything with .22lr.

Good for you!

I would have to shoot it, and do most mine.

Perhaps an unfired, grease in the bore, bolt unturned piece should not be to preclude some devaluation.

My take on it, they were made to shoot and have already out lived at least one or two previous owners.

Further, were it mine, I would just have to find some period mounts and a nice old scope. This action is much more scope friendly than the B series.

I am quite sure it will be a fine shooter. Stick with Standard velocity ammunition and use a 6 oclock hold. I expect you will find that has the sight as indexed marked shooting on the money at 50 meters. You need not purchase expensive fodder.

Good Shooting!!!!!!!!!

I ran across one of these in Ex. Cond. in a LGS recently. It has a triangle with a T stamped in it. Ser # is 8714 and is dated 1936. I think they have it priced too high at $899 but it is close to mint. What say you all? BTW-this is my first time here and I find it to be a fascinating site as I am new to Mausers.

Where is the triangle T stamp? In wood or on metal?

Where is the 1936 date?

Gun with that serial number would predate 1936 considerably. Are you sure that is correct?

Close to mint should fetch this price or more.
