Mauser K98 DOU. 44

New here so bear with me. At a recent gun show an elderly gentleman was selling two of his guns. A shot gun and a Mauser K98 DOU. 44. He stated the Mauser was a veteran bring back and all matching. I would appreciate opinions on this Mauser. Is it correct? Why no markings on barrel near receiver? Thanks LLD

From what I see it looks ok, but maybe sanded and definitely varnished. The pics are tough to see the detail of the numbers but I think they are ok. The barrel code is likely below the wood line, no other parcel markings is fine. Also looks like it could be duffle cut it the bayo lug not pinned on.

What's the letter under the receiver serial number?

Price?

The serial numbers that I can see look good, although some of the photos aren't the best. The stock has been attacked pretty heavily, which will hurt the value.

Thanks for your information. Did not see a letter under the receiver serial number. Also did not look duffle cut but not 100% sure. Not sure about bayonet lug being pinned on .How do you tell if it is or is not?
Gentleman was asking $765.00

See how the bayo lug protrudes from the front band? Second look it doesn't look duff cut but perhaps the pin for the bayo lug is out, achieving the same goal. Pull the front band off and see if the lug is seated all the way down. It should be pinned in place.

I do not have this rifle in hand but am considering purchasing. Wanted opinions due to my lack of knowledge on these rifles. Intend to get better informed. But I have the chance to purchase this one for $765.00 maybe a little less. Does this price seam high ,low ? Thanks LLD

I have 5296 aa block the s/n is on the barrel but not the recvr Yours was prob bult on Monday, mine on Friday! I think that's an excellent value for the money asked....

It wouldn't be too terrible of a buy at that price, but around $600 to $650 is where I don't think you can go wrong on this one.

Nothing of the sort, it isn't a mistake. An aa block is a later gun. I don't know the exact block where they transition, but earlier ones are on the receiver and later ones on barrel.

I can't tell if the stock is cracked, just scratched, or a photo illusion on the right side starting at the recoil lug in the second picture of the first set. Not sure if that would be function inhibiting if repaired correctly if it is a crack, but something for the OP to consider.

I do see how the bayo lug protrudes from the front band. Looks to have been like this for a long time. Pin missing, duffle cut or what. Needs to be checked. Thanks again LLD

It is a crack starting at the recoil lug. Thanks LLD
