Luger P08, BYF 42

Just thought I would share my P08 made by BYF in 42. Overall good condition with some holster wear and hand wear. Most numbers are matching with exception of the grips, possible wartime replacements or post war? The barrel also does not match, but that is due to my country's firearm laws. The original P08 barrel length is 102cm while Canada law requires pistols to have a length of 105cm to meet restricted classification. Thus, this pistol's barrel has been replaced bringing it down from prohibited to restricted (the old barrel was destroyed). Yeah it's BS but without it's barrel replaced there was a possibility of it being destroyed as there are fewer prohibited license holders every year.

Pretty interestingly, you can see the wear in the finish under the toggle that mimics the shape of the hand (0624).
Magazine doesn't match as you can see in the picture. Holster is very nice considering it age, strong stamps

The pictures would not show the pistol currently being of 105cm total length :ROFLMAO:. Kidding aside, you have a nice rig there!

S_K,
would you show us a close up of the barrel around the front sight? I’ve run across a ‘37 S/42 that has been rebarreled, and I’m wondering now if it may be a pistol that was rebarreled in Canada.........

Here you go. I believe the front blade is original as the finish is different.

thanks!
looks different than the one I mentioned, which has rougher machining to the left & right of the part of the barrel that is the dovetail base, as if they waited until the barrel was installed to square off the base for the sight, and cut the dovetail. AND it measures exactly 100mm from muzzle to breech, clearly not a rebarrel for Canadian law purposes.
thanks again, always more to learn!

No worries! Always glad to help out.
