Late Walther PP

I came across this Walther PP pistol recently. It is eagle N proofed with no Waffen Amps , with only a serial number 309197P on the slide and on the frame and no billboard on the slide. A real plain Jane . Finish looks like phosphate. Black plastic grips. I,m sorry I,m picture challenged, so no pictures now. Can anyone help telling me what I have? Is this a 1945 Model? Thanks Banjomike

Post some photos but yes it sounds like a 1945 version. Does the frame match the slide? I have a G.I put together from the end of the war in beautiful shape that has different serials on the slide and the frame. This is a legit variation just like the C block Walther P38's.

The end of the war Walther PP do not always have the banner. You can find these with Waffenamt WaA359, the police E/F stamps, or no acceptance stamps at all (commercial sales to armed forces?). I don't remember the exact theory, but if they were accepted by the Waffenamt and Police I think they were good to go and the banner was no longer required. There's a thread keeping track of these on the p38forum. Are you sure about the serial number? It seems far too early. http://p38forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29314&page=21

There’s no real rhyme or reason to the lack of slide legend timing. This ones much later and has one.

The serial number in the OP, 309197P, is an early 1944 gun, about March 1944. I don't recall seeing no banners that early. I'd really like to see pictures.

I have an old reference book that lists one of these with serial #296,619P.
I would also love to see photos of Mike's Walther PP.

Even with these bad photos I can see the slide legend from the flash. It may be in hand the rust patina is obscuring it, put a bright light in it.
