Late Gust KKW proofing

By Albert Speer's direction in fall of 1942, all of Gustloff's KKW production was to move to Buchenwald by December of that year. I would not expect commercial proofing on any.

All gustloff kkw's bear the commercial type proof Eagle/N. So do commercially made k98's that were made somewhere in Zella Mellis . Even the E/749 proofed guns are E/N proofed. Just like k98's The Eagle/N is the firing test proof. I feel the e/749 is an inspectors stamp and it could be just for the receiver ?
Not sure if we will ever have this one figured out. The zf41 rifles appear to have been shipped to Spandau for upfit to optics. With addition Su2 and Su19 proofs added to the stock.

most trainers I've had apart don't have regional proof marks. commercial k98's do. I have seen fir tree in heart proofs on commercial k98's linking at leas the barrels to Zella mellis. I have seen and noted one mauser dsm 34 with the stag antler proof on the take down disc.

Here's the reason for my questioning

Here is an odd, odd duck, which blew me out of the water and is making my head spin in all sorts of directions. I have no answers, just LOTS of questions...

(Buchenwald stock grip proof marks) Gustloff KKW sn269485

Note that the E/N is below the stock fit line.... (yes, it tells you what you're thinking), but how? Is it one of a kind, or the proofers first day on the job, too much schnapps, etc?

"I think I found that one for BOB.. That was on gun broker some time back. I remember that one or one like it. There is also a serial range where the proofs are horizontal not vertical.. They show up then disappear." M99

Another proofing question

Does anyone have a diagram/map of the Gustloff Werke II? I have one a proposal diagram/map for the DAW in Buchenwald that shows things such as the proposed buildings for the optics, but I don't have one for the bigger buildings across the street. I'm wondering if there was a range, or a shed for ammo. If I was an SS commander, I would question if it would be a good idea to have ammo at a concentration camp for proofing. Outside of what was in my personal magazine.

Here is another showing a similar placement and orientation of the e/n commercial proof. S/N is 269176.

Map one is from Holland, not Buchenwald

Nicole,

Not sure if this diagram I had will help, but here ya go.

Hi JHV,
the first map, the card is from camp Amersfoort, a camp near Amersfoort (center of Holland)
so it cannot be Buchenwald.
hope this helps
