K98K rear sight screw

Greetings, I am a newbie with a newbie question. My 98K, code ar 43, is missing the rear sight base screw. Peering into the well on the sight base I can see some thread for a screw, but not much. Should there be a hole in the barrel for an extension of the screw? See attached image. I cant see how this screw would fit my rifle. Thanks

No, it does not extend into the barrel surface. It acts as a "set screw" to keep it in place as the sight base itself is soldered onto the rifle barrel. Doesn't hurt to have it without the screw at all but for appearance you can add it back.

mow.

I disagree. The barrel has a shallow hole where the end if that screw fits in on the ones I have removed sight bases from. It's possible the old screw is broken off in the hole.

Correct, I was not clear. What I meant was there is not a threaded hole in the barrel the screw fits into. There is a slight depression where the screw "sets".

It is more than a slight depression....it is a drilled hole.

As you suggested, I fear the screw is broken off into the well. Something is there. Thanks for the info.

Seemingly I am not getting my point across well enough. I digress to the technical nature of things. Yes, more than a "slight" depression.

Lol. Nobody is ragging on you, we're just overly technical.

You may be able to have the screw drilled out?

I had a rifle where the hole in the barrel was b,locked because the end of the screw had broken off. I bough a replacement screw and cut/filed the unthreaded part off and then installed the screw. You could never tell now
