K98k on auction in Germany

What about the number on the left side of the rear stock in picture No. 8? Is this typical for K98k issued to the Wehrmacht?

Or is it from an arsenal of the time after WWII? Probably from one of the allies?

The gun has German post-war proofmarks from November 1976.

Any ideas?

Probably a post war number on side of the stock- I've never seen a wartime gun with any serials on the sides, just the bottom.
