K98k - Dual Code bcd/ar - 6-pointed star stamp?

Hi everyone,

First time posting here and new to the forum! I'm also new to the rabbit hole that is K98 history (sorry, I've been watching too many Mark Novak videos). I've come across a unit for sale that has a curious stamp on the receiver - a 6-pointed stamp on a dual-code bcd/ar from 1943 (it seems). Have a look at this:

Apologies if there's already data on this stamp, but I couldn't find anything. Any thoughts? I'm in the market for my first K98, but really want to take my time and learn as much as I can about identifying these things. Seems this hole has a landmine or two. :p

Thanks in advance for any insight here!

Thanks, Dankrez28 and Jakeman664. Yeah, I had wondered about whether it was a modified RC "X" as you suggest.

Other possible markers of it also seem to suggest a Mitchell's or at least a completely overhauled mixmaster, but waiting to confirm from owner. Like new stock (sanded, beechwood-like colour, fairly dark bluing, unblued, steel-coloured, contrasting bolt. Really "fresh", minty looking - with scope. In other words, likely not what I'm looking for.

I just never saw a star stamp quite like that before.

Thanks again!

The dark blue with the bolt in the white pretty much confirms it's a Mitchell. That was his deal for some odd reason.

Yep, 100% it's a mitchell's. That dumb X into star mark is only found on their rifles. I really, really want to know why. I've always suspected the idiot read about WW1 Sterngewehre and had a visit from the good idea fairy, but I doubt we'll ever really know.
