I picked up this K43 today for a old world pricing. As this being only my 2nd k43 I have photos of the rear of the reciever for your opinion on whether this would be safe or not for live rounds with shooters kit. Was previously owned/used by a reenactor.

Some additional photos. I have the safety but missing the spring/clip so need to get one of those to test if it's loose/falls out. But here it is compared to my other. Came with some apfeltor parts.

It has been fired enough to deform the rear of the receiver.....that's why the clip for the safety popped out and until it (the receiver) is straightened out, you will not get the safety to stay in place. The back end of the bolt housing could have some issues too.
Bolt housing looked good, I'll post pics tomorrow. Who does work on these nowadays? Weigh the option if it's worth fixing.

Rob Apfeller used to be able to re-bend receivers but doesn’t do this work anymore. There have to be other gunsmiths that do the same

Seconding that it's a wall hanger until you get the receiver fixed. Not only from a safety perspective, but I'd also be worried about further damaging it and causing it to crack.

Pitty it was beat to death, but it sounds like you got it for a decent price.

I got it for 1400 so I wouldn't mind putting some money out for repairs if there is a good place who does this work. It was used by a reenactor and was threaded for blank adapter.

I know, it’s not what it is supposed to be, but if you make it into a repeater, you won’t have to worry about it exploting in your face, nor damaging it further, and you can still shoot it on a regular basis.

No, I was asking what you meant.

If it's disabling the gas system, that seems like a waste. If you want a shooter G/K43, get a shooter G/K43. If you want a bolt action in 8mm get a 98k, it will be better at that than a crappy straight pull G/K.

Right now this gun is a wall hanger, but not everything needs to be a shooter. Fix it or leave it at home on range day imo.

It can be bent back into place BUT it has to be done by someone who is knowledgeable in heat treating metal since you are going to need to maintain the proper hardening or you will have a fail point. With how most "gunsmiths" are mostly parts assemblers now. good luck finding someone that can still do this kind of work.

I'm currently talking to a buddy of mine who has rebuilt parts kits in to functioning firearms he's welder/fabricator by trade. So hopefully can get some good news there.

I think i recall someone mentioning the bolt so I am dropping those photos now.

To my eyes seems like it's in functioning condition.

I am going to buck the trend here. I really don't see that the damage done to the back of the receiver by a re-enactor firing blanks has any bearing on the safety of firing live rounds, moving forward, so long as the gas system has been tamed.
