Hello and thank you for joining this forum. my name is michael i'm from austria and i already have the first “issue” for the k98k pros among you. Here you can see 2 number matched k98s. my question to you is the following.

- are these lenses contemporary originals?
- especially is the mounting original and contemporary?
- did these dust caps have such stampings?
- how would you estimate the value of the 2 rifles?
- in general - are the parts (especially the mount and the objective) war production and did they exist like this?

Thx a lot!

They don’t look good to me.

There was typically no “dot” snipers that I know of.

I don’t like either at all.

I’m no sniper guy… but both seem like fantasy pieces to me.

What does the seller want for them?

That's the key, if priced reasonably as reproduction, they'd be cool to own...otherwise forget it...

Brünn I (dot) didn't make sniper rifles. One of the sniper guys can tell you the percentage, but most sniper rifles you come across are fakes.

At least the Dialytan bmj+ is a former military scope that got "civilized" by adding focal adjustment (plate on top). Due to the leather cover I can't tell if the rainshield has been cut down (overall length suggests it doesn't have one), if not then it would be a former Single Claw scope. I though tend to think it was a former turret mounted scope since one can see traces on the scope tube where scope rings from turret mount would had been located.

I’m not an expert but I see several small things with both rifles that would make me suspicious.

pic 1/14, the upper rifle (dot 44) has a flat butt plate stock, would not have in 1944, the same rifle has the later type ‘speed milled’ front band, unlikely to be found on a flat plate stock as manufactured.
pic 11/14- although it was done for the claw mounts, I would think a long time before firing the dot rifle with the cut in the front ring for the base, weakens the receiver ring.
from the same photo, the lower rifle with the cupped butt plate stock “probably” would not have been built with an early ‘window’ type front band, but can’t tell for sure because we don’t know the year of the rifle.
I don’t like either set of dust covers.
I realize that the market in Europe is different from in the US, but I would pass on both rifles for that price.
