Interesting DOT 43 with Questions for the Experts

Rest In Peace
Went to my local shop to pick up my latest K43 today and this K98 was offered to me but I don't really know what to make of it or if it is worth the effort as i am not a big K98 collector. I get into enough trouble with G/K43 as it is and I am already deeply infected by these thank you very much! Here's the run down on this odd one...

The stock was unfortunately cut up front by the vet to "sporterize" it but the stock itself is a bit strange, at least what is left of it. The keel is clearly and deeply marked "dot" and is one hell of a nice piece of solid walnut with cupped butt plate. Bolt cutout is crisp and sharp and no evidence of heavy sanding. There are absolutely no Waffenampts or even the evidence of markings anywhere else (did not pull the action from the stock so I can't speak to the interior markings if any). No stamps in the sling cutout either. Hand guard is missing as are bands and spring. Hand guard retainer is still on the front sight base so it may be restoreable from that standpoint.

Receiver marked dot 43, serial 4263 and not sure of a letter block as there are two stamps or nicks near the number that are not distinctive. Barrel has a shield with "dot 13" with "C J" but no other numbers visible and no serial on the barrel. E63 and firing proofed though. Sight and base all match the receiver numbers. No EP marks or import marks on the metal that I can see. Finish looks original, no cold blue that I could spot. Trigger guard is stamped, matching serial number with E214. Floor plate is stamped with serial number and is marked E135.

The bolt is not matching but matches itself it appears but that's where it gets weird I get a bit confused. Extractor is marked "42" with an E655 or E665? Extractor retainer collar also marked with what appears to be the same Waa. Bolt is stamped twice under the handle with E77, Eagle firing proof on handle base facing rear and serialed 6007f. Rear bolt locking lug marked with an "L". Bolt finish is rough and looks hand fitted and filed. What through me for a loop was the underside of the bolt handle. There are two faint numbers stamped on the underside of the knob and at least four separate inspection/proof marks on the handle itself, see photos. The one closest to the bolt knob appears to be a leaf but the others are a mystery. What in the world is this thing... a frankenbolt?

Appreciate any insight as this is a bit of a strange one to me. Restorable? Parts gun? Value? or pass? Thanks guys, more on the new K43 later when I get a chance to take photos this weekend.

Well it will always be a M/M example----so with that said, a M/M bolt + M/M Stock example with all the replacement parts---once completed with a repaired or replaced stock still makes the gun into a $500-$800 or so. The bolt is a early 40's Steyr bolt--Nothing increadably rare or HTF, but with all the B/A out there looking for stocks--it gets tough to find a nice example...You can spend from $150-$400 on a stock so you can see the net value of the current gun....

dot 1943 stocks are unmarked on the exterior aside from the dot mark on the underside. If you pull the action out of the stock it might match

The bolt is out of a Steyr gun and the proofs underneath the bolt handle appear to be Polish glyphs seen on stuff produced at Radom. The rough look to the bolt is typical of a Steyr produced part. The extractor appears to be an armorer's spare extractor from Mauser produced in 1940 (42 E655).

Being a big fan of dot 1943 in walnut I would love to see the SN and alpha for record keeping. The alpha also appears in the stock channel and I fully suspect this one matches, Here's a "j" block of mine that has similiar wood.... As Ryan mentioned, nothing other than "dot" on the exterior wood in '43....
