I am under the impression that rifle #20905k from the above linked auction is a pretty good (also in a matter of much effort put into) done fake of a K98k sniper rifle that not had left factory like this. I'd appreciate other opinions though if I may be wrong.
Base rifle is an 'l' block and appears to be correct.
Here are the markers that I do not like:
1. Font on scope front ring is atypical for late assembly - all my Ajack factory matching scopes have a much smaller font size
2. No checkered buttplate which says to me possible stock replacement
3. Rifle would need to be taken down to establish presence of an assembler number on the lower receiver and stock channel
4. Stock should have matching internal SN that would have been added since these late rifles had no internal stock SN
5. No closeup of safety milling and presence of 'WR' inspection
6. A rifle this late would only have a process number stamped under the rear base of the scope assembly and a full or partial SN of the rifle.
7. I do not like the added SN on the barrel.
This rifle does not give me a "warm fuzzy" as they say. I judge bad.
Georg, the resolution on the image is not good but when I blow it up it doesnt look right.
Thats why I stated that a better image of the machining on the safety is needed.
But from that limited view, looks wrong - the machining pattern is way off.
I noted that the pin stop of the lever on the rear mount is of old style ( screwed ) , I think that the correct one for a so late production must be the roll pin.
