I bought this sling cheap on Ebay so I could give it to my dad who likes to go plink Erma 22 K98 conversions with me, and he usually shoots offhand. Well I thought it was cheap because it must be Post War Czech or something, and I absolutely detest the Flavors of Repro slings out there. (They all look like junk)

But now that I have it in hand I'm wondering if it might be late war, it's completely unmarked and has a painted buckle. Exactly 4 Feet long.

Any ideas what it might actually be? I haven't had enough slings in my hands to know exactly what is what.

Thanks for having a look. If it's Pre-45 I'm back to ebay.

To me that isn't post war Czech unless the seller states it and where it came from. Typically see German slings for some reason have the keeper mounted into the second slot on the sling. Just something I've noticed on K98K's that are supposed bring backs for sale over the years and I believe even my CE 1940 has the keeper in the second sling hole slot. Far as I know the sling was not added to my rifle, I need to message that dealer and see if he will ask the consigner if he had added it to the rifle.

interesting, most I’ve seen are in the last (near the end) hole, to the point where I’ve wondered why they bothered to punch 3 holes, ‘if no one ever used them’ to adjust length. keepers are such an anomaly, (IMO) so many other, less complicated/resource consumptive ways to terminate that end, whereas the overall design of the sling is genius.

I suspect the extra holes were for if the first one was worn out or teared, another hole could be used then.

That makes sense. I was thinking for a minute maybe it was because of the recruits getting younger n younger so smaller stature equals second or third slot hole on the keeper.

I think the 3 holes are just the ever anal Germans, being more anal....
I have seen these K98k slings used on MP40’s too, maybe the initial intention was compatibility as well, since the first and third hole can be used for an mp40 stud without the frosch

One more reason why the second hole is selected is if you have ever tried to push the end of a sling out from under the thong keeper when it is secured to the last/third hole (nearest the tip). It is a PITA because the distance between the last hole and tip is very short. It limits the flexibility of the the strap when trying to remove it. In fact, one has to remove it in reverse by loosening the sling and pushing the strap back through the thong bar to provide enough slack to pull it off the thong stud... something one usually does not need to do if the thong stud is in the first or second strap stud hole...

Matches my experience with slings perfectly.
