Hey guys, new to mausers. Bought this as a birthday present to myself. Got a good price but don't care about value. I saw the X and no sight hood and thought oh, russian capture. Stock looks German and not russian refurbished though? Honestly if someone could give me the rundown on this gun that would be awesome. Wondering if it was yugo/russian/Czech refurbished or what. Also any and every detail if someone cares to share. Ive read for the past couple hours about these and still can't tell/don't know exactly what it is in that regard. Thanks

100%. x on the receiver above the serial number. Serial stamped on left side butt stock parallel to the barrel. On the plus side it's been cleaned up fairly well IMHO and the original rifle is a pre-war Mauser Borsigwalde.

The other dead give away is the finish on the gun. That black finish is something the Russians added during their refurb process. Yours looks pretty good, I've seen some that were pretty wretched. Check out the reference thread here to see what it would have looked like originally, but the long and the short of it is it would be a shade of blue, not black.
