Gewehr 98 Danzig 1915 8827h

This Danzig has quite a pedigree: Sam pulled it out of the woodwork but sold it to a mutual friend when he upgraded. The mutual friend then passed it to me.

It’s a great warhorse with rust toned metal yet spectacular bluing. The stock wood is very nice overall, with a large shrapnel strike on the butt. Bolt, front sight, cleaning rod, and one rear sight tab are mismatched. The matching parts have acceptance consistent with Danzig, and the font has the wavy 2s that Danzig dropped by 1916.

Bands and stock metal. Note the cancellation marks on the earlier depot stamps on the buttplate.

This rifle seems to have gotten around a bit lol. Glad you got it Cyrus
Nice warhorse Cyrus
SALTY but untouched. Fresh from Verdun or the Somme perhaps, who knows. Thanks for sharing Cyrus!
Very nice rifle, leave it as it is!
Thanks, everyone! I certainly do like the warhorses. And Danzigs.
I heard Cyrus was gonna polish the receiver & purdy it up. (I kid).
Gotta nice cheap scope of eBay that'll look real good on it.

That's a solid one Cyrus. Great example of untouched and salty. We all like pretty Gews, but I think everyone needs a few warhorses too.
