I am also a lefty. But I wouldn’t pass on the rifle if the price is “right”. Especially if all matching. The bolt handle should also be marked at the bend on the rear face by the armor who bent it. Just a little known detail. Good luck! Thanks, now then this will impact my decision potentially as you mention offset. Assuming the scope will be offset to the left for a right handed shooter. Some of you may of noticed in some pictures / videos that I'm a lefty!
However still interested to hear about this peice
Better get saving then !!A wonderful and extremely rare Gew98 Sniper rifle , the rifle is 100% period correct original
Thanks very usefulFor starters, genuine sniper scopes had the tube and mounts numbered to the rifle. I have no idea what maker should be found on this type of base, I was hoping someone would have an idea. but the set should be numbered to be a true sniper scope. It would be a stroke of good fortune to find any scope that fits. The scope you show has rings with screws which will help if the distance between bases is off. Many are hard soldered in place. At least being a complete offset scope, you can choose from almost any double claw scope that fits.
Here is a scope set I purchased a while back from the OP to complete my rifle. Just as an example of the numbering.
Walter Gerard B3x scope set for review
Hello all, This is a piece which falls outside my main area of collecting/study, so would appreciate any thoughts on the rig. I get a good feeling about it, but do notice some variations in how the Gew. serial numbers are applied to the scope/case when compared to others. Even if there doesn't...www.k98kforum.com
Agree as I need some help !It would be nice to hear Amberg’s views of scoping this Spandau rifle.
Update. Didn't buy (auction) and went for too much money for me. Having said that, still without a doubt a nice gun. If i only collected German ww1 era guns and had nothing else i would of been braver. Thanks for your help. I'll be back with more no doubt !
£3300 all in Holts UK bearing in mind there was no bidding war as I did not bid at all , so would of gone up and up if I stepped in - Again regret is sinking in a little now, but a big gamble for something I know little about, plus I would want to get the 100% correct mounts and wartime scope plus fitting, so add another £1000 to that as I wouldn't of settled for a non correct commercial variant scope. Oh and I shoot left handed !How much did it go for and which auction
Don't worry, you'll see it again since I was the one to buy it. Had placed a bid on it before you even posted on here, so had to keep silent ..Update.
