Gew 98 rear sling swivel and band behind rear sight ?

Nice quick one I expect.
Pictured is a rear sling swivel on a G98. I have never seen this type before, is this a German / another nation addition, or something else please (looks like a swivel from a SMLE) ?
Also there is a band behind the rear sight, also not seen this before ?

The sling swivel isn't German. Gew98s had a quick detach. I think it was added later.

The band is the rear sight sleeve. Usually the line is cleaner, but on some examples, particularly Danzig or rebarreled ones, the sleeve isn't as cleanly installed so you'll see the seam.

It's not seen as desirable because the Germans never used it, every once in awhile I will buy a nice matching rifle that has a sling loop added to the quick detach. One of my first actions is to remove it when I do

Quick detach style slings, if original, are desirable. Original Gew98 slings are uncommon and quite desirable to pair with rifles.

The loose QD swivels that lock into the attachment on the stock are themselves pretty common. The style of sling with them sewn in are quite desirable though.
 
Thanks for the information, my rifle came with the sewn in style, original sling, what would be best to try to keep the leather in the best shape even though it's 100 years old?

Personally, minimal handling, good storage conditions and do NOT put any leather conditioner on it. They are generally softeners which harm the leather over time. Just my 2 cents. Many of my Gew98s have original slings and I haven't done a thing to the leather.
