Thought I would post some updated pictures of a Sauer HT sniper I purchased in the early 90's. These rifles are somewhat rare and I imagine that fewer than 200 are known worldwide. Hope the pics show well and I'm always glad to hear any comments, pro or con about the rifle. Also shown in a couple of pics is a matching G43 sniper I acquired around the same time I got the HT.

Simply wonderful rifle and thank you so much for posting it. These, a regular person just does not have the chance to see outside the net. I have seen and held one incomplete and that was a privledge. Thanks again. It is a beauty.

This is one of the Best 100% matching HT Snipers and IMO the Hardest the 2 HT Producers to Obtain , As others have also stated Thanks for Post Pics . Great Example . Best Regards

So nice, I have to start playing lotto. Have you dared to shoot it?

Never fired this rifle, I'm too concerned something may come loose. Its got very good rifling and a nice bore that shows use but was looked after. The scope has very nice optics with a very light haze, but still very usable. May just need cleaning. I'm afraid that firing the rifle may shake something loose in the scope, if that should happen I have no idea who could fix it. So it'll be the queen of my gun safe

I've played the lottery too but no luck there.

Hi,
Just what every body is looking for,if I win the lottery can I be first inline.

So not all snipers had checkerd buttplates.

I think you mainly find checkered buttplates on long side rail snipers such as the 'bcd' LSR. The HT I have pictured is exactly as I received it, with a smooth, unmarked cupped buttplate.

I feel sure that the buttplate should not be checkered. Sauer did not use checkered buttplates on most of their snipers. Many LSRs built by Sauer have been pictured here without checkered buttplates. My 905x LSR does have a checkered buttplate and correctness of checkered buttplates on LSR was discussed here pretty completely. BYF built LTs do not have checkered buttplates, or I have yet to see one with checkered. Some early byf HTs also do not have checkered buttplates.

Dave, or some real experts can clarify and/or correct me on this.

Shooting such a rare and valuable rifle is probably just too risky. I have shot a few lower quality German snipers and even that is probably a bit dumb. I might risk it shooting this rifle, if it were mine, with a repro upper assembly, but then again, I might not.

Checkered buttplates were introduced pretty late in 44, so many earlier production snipers don't have them. Even then, the use of checkered buttplates is not reliable in late 44, but by 45 almost all of the snipers I have seen have them.

Mike ,You can find Sauer LSR in 44 with and without Checkered Butt Plates and the same goes for Long Key Safeties . Have not been able to figure out why some do and some do not at least not yet . Not enough examples seen .But Sauer did use Checkered Butt Plates, Possible they were used on HT Sauer`s but I have not seen any Yet . Best Regards

Thanks to all on the buttplate info. Looks like the bottom line is that it varies and is hard to say for certain on many rifles. Sorry to divert the topic a bit, but it helps keep a great rifle near the top.
