Apparently, I am now collecting GECO trainers..Rifle is very similar to the Model 33 I recently picked up...Unfortunately this one is missing the front sight and ANYONE that can help me acquire one, the help would be greatly appreciated..This one is marked "kyffhauserbund" and was wondering if this is an organizational marking or a model marking?...Barrel is the same profile as the Model 33.. I noticed this stock doesn't have finger grooves like the ones I seen in the google image search, but it is matching...Here is the link to the auction photos...

And here are some not so good indoor pics...Comments welcome, thanks for looking, Mike

Mike, the Kyffhäuserbund was a veterans' organization in Germany until it was disbanded in the spring of 1943. It was reformed in the early 1950s and exists in this new form to this day, I believe.

Thanks for confirming it is not a "model" designation..Is this a common marking on training rifles? Any help with detailed photos of the front sight, so I know what I am looking for at gun shows in junk parts boxes would be appreciated..Thanks again for the help, Mike

I've also seen that organizational marking on commercial Erma models, and ? possibly others. As for the sights, I don't have a good image on the hard drive right now but will look for a good photo in some literature later. The Geco catalog (reprints widely available) may have a detailed image of it, also. Hopefully you won't have too much trouble with locating one. The Geco Modell 28 was continued in production for a long time after the short-lived Modell 33 was discontinued.

Thanks again for taking time to reply with information..Mike

Here should be a photo of a GECO sight, it's base is considerably wider than a Mauser that is shown beside it. The one shown measures 0.250" at the wide part of the base. The Mauser measures 0.209" at the base. Your sight may measure differently but this may give you an idea of the sight.

Thanks for the photo..Now at least I have something to go on to what to look for...Thanks! Mike

I just found where I had ordered the sight and it did come off a model 28. The sight has dings but a little dressing up should make it usable. You can have the sight, I'll never use it. Drop me a pm if you want it.

Pm sent..Thanks a million, I owe you one, Mike

Congrats on obtaining a Model 28, and the front site as well. I have two Model 28s I obtained at the Allentown Show over the course of 2 years. I was shocked to discover they are consecutive serial numbers! Both have the Mauser 360 type stock. One has the target sights, and the other has the Diopter match sights (rear is numbered to the rifle).

Since I am a shooter I find the Geco trigger to be less crisp with more slack than the Mauser.

pic of 28 sight

pic of sights, in mm, the front sight has a push button to switch out for different style, hope it helps you.

Here is the Geco 28 variety offered by Gebrüder Gattermann in 1936 catalog. Your 28D model was also offered with checkered pistol grip and forearm, and according to the listing, should have an adjustable trigger pull.
