Nice one Bob, though, from the title I thought this post would have had more to do with boobs.

Very nice, Bob. I love that rich tone. I bet it looks even more impressive in sunlight, though your photography skills are top notch.

You know, I may be a gun geek. When I first saw the thread title, I didn't think about Bruce's avatar, what leapt to mind and what I expected was a late war thick wristed bcd4 with that thick, chunky stock with just the minimal amount of forming and sanding.

I think I need help. Oh, well.

Jeff

Beautiful rifle. The stock just glows. Question though. Was there a reason why Oberndorf stopped putting serial #s on the barrel? It seems as though sometime in 43 they stopped putting the serial #s on the barrel. My byf43 and 44 do not have the serial #s on the barrel. Anyone know why?

Thx guys
Jeff... The angle of the sunlight and the observer is interesting
and gives diff results with this rifle.
The wood is actually somewhat "tan" in color and the oils etc over time
have toned the wood.

The left side stripes are more tricky and more subtle unless the angles are just right.
RSide is more intense. Photography with these is challenging....

Bob,

I know just what you mean. I have an all matching 1937 proofed Lion's Crest Vz.24 with the most beautiful iridescent tiger stripe figure you could imagine, it looks 1/4" deep in the sun. I could never do it justice with a camera.

I'll give it a try, though. It is the nicest wood I have ever seen on a military rifle. It is just hard to describe without seeing it in person. Unfortunately, the stock has been sanded (it's only real flaw), but that actually made the wood stand out more nicely, so I can live with it. It is a true family WWII bringback from my great uncle, also. A very cherished rifle.

I'll do some pics.

Jeff

Thank you for the pictures.

Glad to see another BYF 43 e block, like mine. Yours is in better condition.

Is the front sight hood missing and do you have the bayonet?

Pics, Jeff, pics!

Bob, seeing byf 43 is your least favourite, I am willing to take this rifle off your hands

Wow, Bob is right. Very hard to photograph and get any of the irridescent quality. It really is striking in person. The stock is marked with the serial number on the butt side, but the sanding makes them almost impossible to see, but they are there.

All matching rifle, and the sling is the nicest original Czech Vz sling I have ever seen. I've posted it on forums before, but couldn't find any of my old pics.

The rifle was brought back from WWII by a friend of my great uncle on my dad's side, and given to him as a gift. My Great uncle was a wisconsin state senator, and the man who brought it back was his page before the war. It was passed on to my uncle, then on to me.

Pity about the stock sanding, but my uncle said it was pretty bad before it was spruced up. It was done in the 1960's. Like I said, you wouldn't get to see this gorgeous wood if it were all grimy. Nothing I can do about it anyway, so I just enjoy it. Not many matching Lion's Creast Vz24s floating around.

Jeff

Very pretty wood Jeff. Figured walnut on military gear is the bomb.... I bet the guys laying out templates for stocks tried to maximize figure and the number of stocks from a board while avoiding obvious defect.

my BCD4 Sauer barreld Matching Claw mount FULL FIGURE

OK Guys have at it all matching -sans upper mounts. The lower mounts are screwed & soldered may be post ward DDR as rifle came from east Germany in 1953. bolt is matching but hammerd down MSW replacment scope Re -made upper rings ( Never found vintage rings that fit ) Tell me what you think. 100_0254.jpg100_0260.jpg100_0253.jpg

I am sure this dot 1943 was shown on this forum, but can't locate. I remember Hambone even joked that it's a camo stock with the stripes. Anyway, amazing wood to share on this "k" block...
