Frogs Procured for the Luftwaffe

Frogs procured for the Luftwaffe are found in the same patterns for those of the Heer. Finish was in natural brown or treated leather until 1940. Most will be found with a "L.B.A." or "L.B.A.(S)" marking "Luftwaffe BekleidungsAmt (Sud)" on the obverse along with a manufacturer's name/location/date and in many cases a issuing unit marking as well. By 1941, frogs identified as Luftwaffe issue seem to disappear. By that time, frogs were either being diverted to them from Heer stores, they bore contract numbers (R.B. Nr.) unidentifiable as Luftwaffe, and/or no Luftwaffe depot/unit markings. As with the Heer, the color was changed to black. A factory black frog bearing Luftwaffe markings would be a scarce variation...I do not have one but am fairly certain I have seen one or two in the past.:

#L1-L4 Frog marked on obverse "Wi.Tr.TLdshg./L". On reverse is "L.B.A." & a secondary marking...half of which appears to have inverted characters. It reads: "J2553 (followed by a upside-down "FL") K2IIH".

#L5-6 Frog marked on obverse "L.B.A.(S)" & "J.Gr.I./234" over an illegible manufacturer's marking in oval banner.

L#7-8 Frog marked on obverse "L.B.A. (S)" & E.O.Gotze & Sohn | Gersdorf | 1940.

#L9 Same as above, but dated 1939.

#L10 Marked on obverse "Paul Klopfer | Berlin | 1937", "L.B.A." & "Fl. S. Ludwigslust" (Flieger Schule).

Strange are the reverse marking which are deep and partly wrong side added. when period so it should be wrongly added by Waffenmeister.

This is an excellent post pwcosol. Your #L9 frog is a very rare example. E. O. Götze & Sohn > Gersdorf > 1939 in natural brown leather with long center stitching and L.B.A. (S) stamping. A combination not generally encountered for Luftwaffe contract frogs. My example is an AC 311 type with the alternate retention strap attachment.

Slash:
I saw this thread had been resurrected and was trying to figure out where it came from. Think it is the "missing link" which belonged with these other articles I drafted some years ago. Unfortunately, many good threads are now hard to find. I used to look thru "my attachments" to locate them, but that has now gone away. I will add the LW Frog link to the rest posted below. For years I made inquiries as to how I could get the lot put into a reference pinned thread or sticky, but never got a response. Having put some effort into this I think our membership would benefit from it being a readily accessible resource. I can edit these articles as well, and have done so (primarily with new additions of my own or from Forum members) previously.

Didn't even realize this was a dated thread. As far as a "sticky" or reference I will address .....

Frog mentioned in Post #3. E. O. Götze & Sohn > Gersdorf > 1939 in natural brown leather. The body is smooth finished, while the pouch only is rough-out. Aluminum rivets and steel retention strap stud.

The frog is interesting, question remains the secure strap was installed in fabric or later?

Wanted to verify the two E.O Gotze & Sohn frogs, so looked them up in my record book. The 1939 example has a slotted body/cross-strap (AC# 311). The 1940 is as pictured. (AC# 308).
