Early K98 Information - Help Me

Hello all, I am new to the forum and excited to bring this rifle up for some discussion. This rifle belongs to friend of mine, which was given to him by his father. ( I am the one interested in these type of things) His father purchased the rifle well over 20 some years ago. From what I have been able to find the receiver markings show S/243 above 1937. On the side the factory stamps show 211 211 211. From the information I have found this should be a 1936 receiver?? All of the numbers match the 1557,( screws, bolts, etc... as well as the butt stock). The markings have not been pinged. I am also curious as to what the marking is that looks like and eagle, but slightly different on the left side of the receiver and the barrel near the serial number. I will attach some picture, the more information the better. The price would be nice but not necessary, I have a feeling this one is worth a decent amount. Thank you!

Hello there, nice rifle!

The two eagles on the left are firing proofs, but in the older Weimar stick eagle style...

As it happens the two guru's of this board have Volume I of their 98k trinity coming out soon which will cover these early 98k's in amazing depth...

But I am sure you will get lots of info from everyone here in the meantime.

If it is all matching, its a great rifle!

WaA211 is correct for an early 1937 Mauser Borsigwalde (S/243). Any markings left on the right side of the butt around the stock disc?

On the disc there is the 211 but it only has a large N or Z depending on angle. And yes all numbers are matching.

He means in the wood, above the stock disc (towards the receiver) There should be an Eagle over a letter over several more eagles....on these earlier ones, the letter designated which branch it was for..."H" for Heer, "L" for Luftwaffe, or "M" for Kriegsmarine....

Unfortunately this stock has been refinished at some point so all the markings have been sanded. Other than the large z or n that has been put into the stock.
