duv/bnz dual code rifle

Surprise, another RC dual code rifle found in Kanada. (For those that can take a joke)

Joking aside. duv produced rifle with a poorly struck eagle over 214 on top of the receiver and dated '42'. Underneath a hand stamped bnz (no dat e stamp for when bnz finished the rifle). Serial only on left barrel #9258. Barrel marked DY bnz shield over 1. Small WaA623. Rear site assembly has some lucky charms on the bottom and so does the receiver. Rear sight assembly right side has small WaA 623. Right Receiver has 1x small WaA ??? which cannot be read.

It is an RC, but interesting rifle as I have never seen this dual code, nor can I find another documented example.

I assume finished by bnz in 1944???

Thank you

for those that can take a joke: congratulations, now two are known

I agree, looks like a SS contract. What surprises me, it has the WaA already applied to the top of the receiver. I wonder if that rifle once had been complete, then killed for parts (damaged?) and reused receiver? Any chances to see the side of the receiver, if a former serial had been scrubbed?

Some of these hand stamps are salvages from damaged rifles. Probably sent from depots in the east being evacuated.

That rifle was a finished BLM product and as Ryan noted, was likely salvaged from a damaged rifle.

There are several examples rifles released by Mauser Oberndorf in 1944 with recovered receivers.
These also carry an E/26 inspection, which I surmise was a clearance to use mark.
These were then sent down to Oberndorf from the Berlin facilty.

Sadly, I do not have one of these in the collection.

I also think we need to make the distinction between true "dual/coded" verses salvaged.
The dual/coded receivers would have been diverted receivers used in new serial production.
I would bet that between Steyr and Brunn I, there are countless builds using salvaged receivers.
Especially by the Brunn I plant, using many early S coded examples.

Certainly a scrubbed rifle. At least one if not two 'eagles' were scrubbed on the right receiver. One can still be seen.

Interesting...I was thinking it might be an SS Contract rifle. I took it apart hoping to find more interesting markings under the stock line Nevertheless, this is one of those RC's that is worth grabbing.

It's not an SS contract - if it were, it would have a rune on the receiver. It's an Army contract gun. Cool, depending on price. For those that can see it, the serial has an "n" letter suffix which precludes SS anyway, but the lack or rune is the tell.

About as cool as it gets for an RC. I would probably own that RC. But regular plain ones..no. Even sold an SS one I found here. Such a sad state that this is what we get excited for up here. RC.

Is the rest of the gun decent?

that n is really well hidden. Sharp eyes in here!

Do I see it correctly the original serial and firing proof on the receiver was scrubbed?

Yeah the suffix was partially obscured by the barrel code lot. Good eyes indeed.

I don't see an indication of scrubbing but rather it looks like some type of physical damage in the area of the firing proof. I see no evidence of serial ever being there as the surface appears pretty uniform and the tool marks as well. firing proof.jpg

Any dual code receiver used in SS production should/will have a rune, I should make a new “SS contract” rule. Guys are pretty on it with “no letter suffix” for SS but the rune equation still causes confusion.

Anyway, I’m waiting for someone to post the “rule breaker” SS contract, it has to happen one day. No way Steyr didn’t screw that up at least once.
