Hey Stana

First, Congrats, what a nice set. I'm happy that you obtained the bases. The issues you pointed out are actually .....small issues.....most of these bases are lost.

This might sound crazy, but, prior to starting any project, If it was me, I would somehow use your bases to make additional bases. In that, there are many people looking for these bases.

As you more than likely know, there isn't an adjustment on either the rings or bases for windages on these kind of claw mounts. So the only method of adjusting right/left was tapping the front base. Accordingly, soldering is totally out and both the front and rear bases are dovetailed, respectively into the front receiver and the receiver bridge. I strongly suspect, viewing the quality of the drilling made to the rear base, that this was done when the rifle was original fitted (1) with this mount. In that, at the time, this sort of dovetailing still required handfitting, but even the smallest error still might allow a small amount of drift. To correct this sight drifting, a dovetailed mount of this kind would simply require a small screw threw the base into the receiver.

I'm not sure of your location, but you should obtain the best gunsmith you can find only because this project will require a lot of skill in cutting the front and rear dovetails.

(1) This may have been done afterwards, but by a very skilled gunsmith. If you can ask the person you purhased it from.

Again, what a nice scope and base

John

No need for windage adjustment on rings or bases.
DC dow scopes have an eccentric front lens fitting.

Hi John
I am Pretty sure Stan will not use this for a Project as He does have a Beautiful SS DBL CLAW . Heck He probably owns one of the Best Collection of SS DBL CLAW Scopes & Rings . Enough to Start his own Production Line , LOL!!!!!!!!!!! . Best Regards

P.S. Stan that is a Great Addition and a Hard Variant to Get . I would take that off Your Hands when You come over for SOS . Lets just Consider that Room & Board Payment . LOL!!!!!!!!! . Counting Down the Days . Look Forward to the Company . Are You ready for the Cozy 7 .

Thank you for the info, I was totally unaware that these (not exactly sure how it works from your post) have some sort of windage adjustment built in, I had always believed (well you can tell from my prior post) they were adjusted just like the 4x Lovec which often has similar claw mounts (without windage adjustment).

John

John,
no problem. We are all here to learn.
The windage adjustment on the DC dow scopes works similar to the ZF41 (and some WWI) scopes. Turning (rotating) the front lens fitting, you change the windage adjustment. From my understanding they first had to zero windage, then elevation.
Since I wont be back at home before March 5th to take some photos, I have to rely on Stan or Dave to post some.
Thanks
Wolf

Only have one dow scope of that type (with focus). No suffix. Probably very early scope!?

hello Amberg
it looks to me that scopes with suffix were used on "byf" rifles (5 digits SN)
without on "bnz" rifles (4 digits SN)
I have never seen 4 SN digits and suffix

Stan

You are right Stana !

BYF factory . 5 digits serial numbers with letter block !

BYf 43 on A B C D block are know today in collection .....

DC scopes with suffix letter are only adjustable focus DOW . Not with Non Adjustable Occular ....
