Did I find a piece of history? 1943 C.V.L M1884/98 third pattern bayonet. It's unsharpened and both the blade and scabbard display the numbers 7184.

Not sure how, but this thing looks to be unused. Wasn't the war still happening in 43'??? Anyways, it's sitting in what I believe to be a pretty rare frog. Olive green Mesh type used in a specific but short lived unit called the Afrika Korp? I'm no collector or specialist, I've just always loved history. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thats normal, the piece could be stored in depot, for opinion that was not used we should see photos, in that case the web frog was added postwar there. In depots were frog and bayonets stored in different places. Problem is too that 43cvl is already rough shape mashining so usage traces is not so visible as on prewar high polish bayonets.

Yeah, it's certainly not like most I've looked at. It's more of a blue steel. The markings are very clear though. I'll take a few pictures and see if I can figure out how to post them on here if you think that could help.

There are traces of wearing with frog, in case with this it could be long time since war stored with this frog when its corespond, the rust of pommel caused darkening on the frog, pictures should be made wout flash on daylight as here is not extra visible but it looks more the frog is brown. The heavy usage of this bayonet is not visible here , even the production is early 1943, but evidently it could be used for short time. Should be presented the rifle slot area of pommel as by attaching to rifle, they were added scratch lines.

I'll take some more pictures in the daylight so you can see the green and the pommel attach. It's still dark here in NY for about another hour or so. I really appreciate the information, thank you.

WKC , Solingen production of 1943.
I showed this to a collector, who only wanted to purchase it instead of telling me about it. So I really appreciate your time. Are you familiar w/ what these can sell for? I'm not a collector, not of weapons anyways. So I'll likely pass it on.

When I bring it back to the collector to sell it, I'll have knowledge of what it is, when and where it's from, and how much to charge him. It came w/ an American bayonet from the same time period. USM8 markings with what I assume is Latin writing crudely etched into it's scabbard. My guess, it likely belonged to the soldier who brought back the German bayonet. It's definitely been used if you know what mean.
