Hi

I search info and pictures about:
- german sniper rifle used in WWI
- sporting rifle type M98
- rifle Modell 2 kal. 22
made by Gewehrfabrik Danzig with type montage for sniper scope called popular "Danzig mount".

This type mount was patented by Gewehrfabrik Danzig in 1919/1920.

Hello PJB,
that mount usually is referred to as Reichswehr mount.
After WWI, when the GwF Danzig was closed down, the Patent was most likely sold to Gerard, Charlottenburg. At least the Reichswehr ordered that type of mount from Gerard.
There are two variations. The early one most likely already introduced at the very end of WWI. And the post war variation as shown in the Patent documents.
Have a few scopes with rings, and a Danzig sporter with Gerard Mod. K scope.

BTW: I do not like the rifle shown in the photo. Looks like a put together from parts!

Thanks
Wolfgang

Am I mistaken or have I seen this type of mount
During the inter-war era on the Kar98 for the
“Police forces”?

Had a few mount & base components of this type I sold a few years ago. There are subtle differences in these as well. Think a friend of mine got some and don't know if he still hast them or not...

Hello,

I put these in to areas as Commercial, and military. The Commercial is fancy with a machined step/boss for the front ring and mount to lock in and a has 4 digit serials. The military it cleaner simplified like the one Absoult posted and to make it easier to know as the 4 digit serial will follow with a letter suffix. Danzig Geweherfabrink didn't have any letter suffixes. I have been collecting bits and pieces trying to get a complete sets but I am still looking!!

I'm the kind of weird guy who comes upon a rifle, remembers this thread here, and ends up buying the rifle, just to have it pictured for this thread and future reference :).

The rifle was a bit altered, meaning the buttplate was replaced and once had fitted a glued on cheekpad - and very certain the trigger once was a double set trigger that someone replaced with a normal trigger again (maybe to use the double set trigger in a different rifle, because I see no real other reason to do this).

What is highly interesting with this rifle is the fact that bases and scope rings all carry the pairing number 630, even the lever from the rear base (and I assume the front base has it on bottom, since I failed to find one outside) - plus they are then all matched to the rifle too.

Missed to picture the scope inscription, it is made by Pecar.
