Danzig Kar 98a 1909

I had previously posted this one early last year but took a few pictures of the numbered parts. I figured it may be good to get opinions on this one. It is matching to the screws with the second “6” on the stacking hook appearing overstamped but I believe this to be period done. The buttplate is unit marked to the 14th Ulan regiment which I read saw service on both major fronts of the war and there is no depot marking. Anyhow I welcome any opinions you all may have,

Fantastic Danzig, Marc! I bet that double six stamp is only a factory slip, the acceptance is consistent with other early Danzig Kars.

I’m kinda stoked about your rifle as my Kar98AZ (Kar98a), is also a 1909 Danzig, also marked to the 14th Uhlans, and is serial 2091b.

My rifles is unit marked 14.U.2.35

My rifle is partially matching. It’s a bolt mismatch, but the bolt matches itself (6933) and it’s a correct Kar98a bolt. Also, the entire triggerguard, floorplate, follower and the triggerguard screws are mismatched to the gun, but match themselves (9664)

My rifle has the original sling and also doesn’t look to be sanded or cleaned in any way.

Mine is up here in Alberta, Canada. Kinda neat that these two rifles were probably made in the same week or so, ending up in North America.

Well anyway. Cheers on a nice rifle!

I find the rifle quite interesting also, though it's main interest is the unit marking for this maker, - units seem to group together and most Danzig/09's are Dragoon marked, only one Ulanen accompanies this one, 1909 Danzig 6112 c 15.U.1.66, which little is known about it as it was a Hermann Historica sale some years ago.

Very interesting you should post it. This one came of the woodwork from Massachusetts. As I recall the 14th Ulans were divided up Midwar and attached to different divisions. Only one of those divisions faced American troops that I could find. Others Commonwealth or French forces.
