Damaged P38 CYQ

Anyone ever seen damage like this to a P38. Sorta crazy. I know cracked slides and frames were sort of a problem but nothing like this. Battle damage maybe? Rest of the gun is in great shape and matching

I would agree, some kind of battle damage. zooming in on it, Can see some defined marks. Originally I thought maybe a bullet hit it but I figure a round would have caused more internal damage as well. Only thing that appears harmed is the frame. Nothing I could see when I took it apart

It looks to me like there is slight damage to the slide and barrel block on the right side northeast of the "9" and, of course to the right of the "g".

agree, I think the marks on top of the ‘wings’ (opposite the bottom chord of the barrel) and leading edges of the slide above them come from prying the slide loose after the impact that caused the damage lower down.

Definitely external source of damage. Lots of things flying thru the air in a war zone.

Looks like shrapnel damage then someone ground it out to make it functional.
