hello I'm wondering what the 217 K code means I'm aware the CUI is Ernst Pack & Sohne

Looks like the serial # to me. Cui42 on one side of the blade, serial on the other

the correct form for E.Pack and 1942 production would be only 42.cul, other way when latin scribed font it could cvl instead of cul. CUI dont exist as bayonet producer only CUL.
217k should be correct range for E.Pack &Sn.

Thanks for the reply just a little background on this piece, My great grandfather with the PPCLI captured this bayonet and k98 byf 44 then brought them back in pieces to Canada back to his farm in Alberta where he used them to put down cows on the farm for many years.

Yes a well used S84/98 to knife, for collector it has not large value as damaged by sharpening, for You as family item is more important. The frog looks nice. The scabbard should be same number as bayonet.
