That looks to be one of the Mitchell's Mausers.

They were a company that imported a bunch of Russian captured k98k (mismatched), force matched all the parts and reblued them. The stocks were also cleaned heavily and re-serialized to matched. Another Tell-Tale sign is that they left the bolts highly polished and bare. The Germans never did that on K98K.

They don't have a terribly good reputation in the collecting community. They sold for a lot more than they were really worth and most serious collectors avoid them for anything other than a shooter.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Looks like a legit SS marked receiver but as has been stated it is a Mitchell’s Mauser. All collectibility has been nullified. It will be a great shooter though, so take it out and beat it up, use it as intended.

No matter what Mitchell’s did to it, it’s still quality German steel under all that pimp shine.

Yep, a Mitchell see the Mcc import mark, bright bolt, renumbered in incorrect font to match, and the star on the receiver ... and more attributes see my old SRF post section on Mitchells
(page 1). They came in different grades and a fancy box with the goodies extras. Did yours come in the box? See the following link.

Now while its faked to a reproduction state, it was the best of the Russian Captures used to make the Mitchell conversion and headspace and bore should be almost like new. An OK shooter or deer rifle.

I think that the SS single rune receiver is a pretty neat talking piece, but other than that it is pretty much just a shooter. Cool to ponder how it was captured on the eastern front...
