Thanks to moosedog for the rifle! I had a perfect stock waiting in the wings, a nice white glue Oberndorf, only a few hundred off and a 5 digit SN just like the rifle. Personally I don't mind stock mismatches especially later in the war. If you can find the same manufacturer, they display much nicer since from the outside since it is impossible to tell if it is mismatched, compared to a bolt.

I don't know why, but love those white glue stocks and late war rifles! nice one. I've got a byf 44 that was all matching when I bought it, in a totally butchered white glue stock. The barreled action looks like new, found a beautiful walnut stock to put it in with excellent markings, have to post some pics of it.

Nice! I picked up a byf 44 many years ago at a Gander Mountain store. It was pretty cheap and the metal all matched except for the cleaning rod and safety, but was in a duffle cut, mismatched dot stock. I found a correct Mauser Oberndorf stock eventually that was a least correct for the time frame. It was fun, simple project!

How butchered are we talking, like sporterized?

Back when you could find stuff like this at regular stores, I caught the tail-end of this stuff when I turned 18 in 2015 but man it went fast.

Nice job with that but I'm curious. The bands are also 1933 so what was f'd up with the original stock? Or was there no stock?
