Hi! First post on the forum. For the longest time I've been a fan of finnish mosins, but finally made my delve into muasers at the local gun show this weekend.

My intent going in was to grab a non-captured K98k. I didn't want to get too crazy on cost, with the hope I could track down something along my interests under ~$1,200 (this may be unrealistic, I don't know enough on the valuation side of things). I found two rifles of interest: one being a $750 non matching rifle, and the other being (what looked to be at the time) a fully matching non-captured rifle for $895. There is some scrubbing that looks to have happened on the receiver, but in general all the serials seems are intact, with exception to the serial on the barrel which is partially scrubbed by the looks of it. I didn't see any import marks either, so I am unsure if this is a bringback, or something else. The floorplate does actually seem to be non-original.

Let me know what you guys think! I'd love to hear more about this, and I'd love to track down some more in the future when budget allows!

Final purchase cost with transfer: $885. (got a slight deal from asking)

Hey again, good decision coming here. As I mentioned on Reddit, the bolt is humped. Do you have up close detailed photos of those proofs on the receiver and barrel?

@Zeppelin5000 I added the photos of the proofs to the end of the imgur album.

Given the lack of blueing, I'm not very hopeful at this point.

No matter what it ends up being, it does at least shoot remarkably well.

The bore on it is absolutely fantastic.

I think the price was fair for what you received. The bolt is bad & the floor plate is wrong. Can you do a close-up on the serial / inspections on the trig guard too?

Given my newfound knowledge on what exactly the trigger guard is on these, below is a close up of the area that does include markings.

See HERE.

If you're wanting something covered by the wood, just let me know!

I’d say the safety is humped, maybe the cocking piece, and I’m suspicious of the trigger guard. the number looks OK, & ‘off-angle’ waa marks aren't unusual, but given the other humping…..
but overall, not a bad purchase for the price, the most important parts match. no sn on barrel because there isn’t supposed to be. the number that IS there is the ‘barrel code’ indicating year, maker & lot number. Sometimes the blank supplier & finisher are the same, sometimes different, I can’t make out the whole string.

Thanks for the input! I’m glad I was directed towards the forum.

I’ll likely end up selling this one, because I like to collect things a bit more authentic, but I’m glad to at-least know what I have.

Glad it could make it to the forum as another data point!

Unfortunately, those numbers are humped too.... Mauser-Oberndorf had a specific font. It's easy to tell if you're familiar with it. Regardless, it was ar a decent price!

Yup, no bueno. Acceptance is no good too. Whoever did the hump job knew somewhat the layout, but matching the originals is another matter.
